Payroll Compliance is a critical deliverable. Non-compliant payrolls can gain media attention, which can damage company reputations, profitability and talent attraction. 

Payroll - Questions to ask

  • Are all required data sources interfaced to payroll?
  • Are your tax tables current? How often do you update them?
  • Are you compliant with National Employment Standards (NES), Modern Awards, Record Keeping, Single Touch Payroll and SuperStream?
  • Are all salaries correct? Are you complying with the BOOT?
  • Are all awards configured correctly, including age rules?
  • Are all rosters configured correctly? Are they all able to be created?
  • Do you have all payable allowances correctly set up in the system? Are they linked correctly to STP Reporting?
  • Do you have all payable deductions correctly set up in the system? Are they linked correctly to STP Reporting?
  • Is FBT payable by some employees? How and when do you capture the data?
  • Do you use a file to load banking details? Is it up to date? If not, how do you validate account details?
  • Can you process payroll tax through the system? Are the rates up to date for each state?
  • Can you export a General Ledger File that can be imported to your finance system?

Positions - Questions to ask

  • Are all positions created? Do any need to be deleted or archived?
  • Are all positions correctly associated with reporting or approval lines?
  • Can you view and export an employee’s position history?
  • Can you allocate headcount to a position and track it? E.g, 3 call centre operator positions.
  • Can you generate a headcount report showing joins, transfers in and terms?

Superannuation - Questions to ask

  • Can you cater for all types of Superannuation, e.g., default, complying, self-managed, etc?
  • What type of payments can you process, e.g., SGC, Member voluntary, Salary Sacrifice?
  • Are all staff correctly set up for super liability and additional payments?
  • Are caps and monthly exemptions in place? How often are they reviewed?

Terminations - Questions to ask

  • How are terminations processed? Is there a documented procedure?
  • Do you follow NES standards in relation to redundancy and termination, or do you have an agreement in place that offers better conditions? How often do you review legislation or agreement terms?
  • Are correct Lump Sum payment codes applied when paying out leave on all types of termination?
  • Is the correct Lump Sum category being selected for any payments made in a termination? Do you consider age or years of service rules?
  • Can you do a termination calculation as an enquiry?
  • When do you run STP for a terminated employee?
